How Do You Measure a Year?

As each year comes to a close, I often find myself in deep reflection. I think about everything that happened throughout the year, and how time seemed to move at different rates in different circumstances. Some days seemed to drag, while others flew by. Some events felt like they just happened, when they actually occurred several months ago. The inevitable, "I can't believe the year is over!" pops up in my mind, and yet, here we are again. So, how do you measure a year?

When I began blogging 6 years ago, I started a tradition of picking out my Top 10 Events from the year and writing them down in chronological order. In most cases I also included a few photos from those events. This year has certainly been one of challenge and change, and it helps to look back as a reminder of all the joyous and memorable moments. Just for fun, I am going to read through the other end-of-the-year reflection posts to see what has changed and what remains the same in terms of what I consider the highlights.

A common thread over the years include things that relate to art and travel (go figure, I missed writing a few times due to travels), plus milestones and other special events. Here we go, just before midnight, this year's list:

My Top Ten Events From 2022 (In Chronological Order):

1. Finding out I was pregnant (on New Year's Day)

2, James seeing himself on the evening news

3. Wedding celebrations (and epic speech)

4. One Mile a Day Challenge

5. Birthday trip to NYC + the most steps I've taken in a day all year

6. Beach trip with friends

7. Family trip to Deep Creek Lake

8. Bryce's birth

9. Creative Mornings

10. Family Trip to North Carolina

There are so many other highlights from this year, including time with family and friends, a career shift, and building/expanding my skillset to support my small business. I look forward to what 2023 brings in all aspects of my personal and professional life!
